Severnside Ramblers
About Us - Like most Groups, the majority of our members do not walk with us or attend our social gatherings but support us in other ways, consequently we get around 12 -18 people on our walks, a manageable number which has given Severnside a reputation for its friendliness and sociability.
We’re part of the Ramblers, the charity that helps everyone, everywhere, enjoy walking and protects the places we all love to walk. We’re dedicated to looking after paths and green spaces, leading walks, opening up new places to explore and encouraging everyone to get outside and discover how walking boosts your health and your happiness.
Our group takes in the areas of Severn Beach, Pilning, Aust, Stoke Gifford, Olveston, Easter Compton, Almondsbury, Patchway, Filton and Bradley Stoke.
Walks programme - We arrange walks each weekend as well as midweek and evenings in the summer. The areas we visit and length of the walk varies greatly as you can see from the programme on our Walks Page and is the choice of the leader. Our Friday ambles are rarely more than 4 miles and often end with an optional hostelry visit. All our Walk Leaders are volunteers.
Weekends away - Members also arrange short breaks and occasional weekends away, past trips have taken us to Shropshire, Dartmoor, the Brecon Beacons, Devon, Cornwall, Pembrokeshire, Brendon Hills, Elan Valley, Llangollen and Isle of Wight.
Social events - We also have social events such as skittles evenings, quiz nights and there is always a celebratory dinner held over the Christmas period.
However, we are more than just a walking club. The Ramblers is a registered charity and one of the charitable aims is to campaign to keep the footpath network open, and we do our best to ensure that un-walkable rights of way are brought to the Local Council's attention.
